MRP Development & Ballast Nedam Development wants to draw up a vision of clean, smart mobility and develop an appealing sustainable mobility concept as part of a tender process for the urban development of Cartesiusdriehoek.
Our solution
On behalf of our client, we have elaborated an appealing and ambitious vision of sustainable mobility for Cartesiusdriehoek in Utrecht. Here, the major trends which will shape the future of mobility – electrification, sharing and autonomous driving – are directly translated into a project of urban development that will become a model for healthy, sustainable urban planning. We have collaborated directly with the development team, architects and urban planners to come up with a design that fully integrates this effort to make mobility more sustainable.
Relocating is a good opportunity to rethink your mobility behaviour. One of the main questions we considered was: How can we effectively influence mobility behaviour when designing a new urban development project?
When exactly does choosing a private car stop being the most obvious choice? Other questions have been addressed as well: How can we promote the use of bicycles as one of the principal means of transportation? What kind of collective mobility should we offer to new residents and when do we start urging and encouraging them to use it? How much charging infrastructure has to be installed in the area by 2030? How ambitious can we be in limiting the amount of parking spaces for private vehicles, but also promote car sharing? Should we still build that expensive parking garage in that size?
Together with our client, we have developed a vision and a sustainable mobility concept that gives an answer to all these questions. The concept was then further elaborated in cooperation with all market players involved in the commercial exploitation of the project. Over Morgen has offered consulting services in the contracting phase between these parties as well.
